Filling the transport gap
In a world increasingly dominated by the car and the need to have access to transport, the new bus will meet the needs of those most vulnerable to bus route cuts. It will provide a broad range of transport services as it is able to cater for the disabled people in our community.
The bus is available to registered passengers only (How to register)
When bus companies through commercial pressures, decided to stop running small bus services through many parts of our TOWNS, it left many with no access to public transport. The service was withdrawn at the time when swipe cards were introduced to pay rates, leaving people effectively stranded or facing taxi fares to pay their bills.
The new bus was one of three purchases by the Wakefield Partnership. This one was garaged in Barnsley another one operated out of Kinsley and one out of Havencroft. When Cllr Harrison became aware that one of the buses was not being used, with the support of the Town Council, he was able to negotiate it being transferred to South Kirkby.
In an effort to share the service, (To keep the service running)South Kirkby Town Council extended the opportunity to have a stake in the new bus to the other two local Town Councils; South Elmsall and Upton. Hopefully, both these councils will invest money into the new venture.
As the law currently stands a Town Council is able to fund a bus service, though it must be managed by a community company. The Three Towns Community Bus Company Limited will manage the new service.
