Forthcoming Meetings

Town Council 6pm, Wednesday, 2nd December 2009
- Meetings will be held in the Council Chamber, The Grove, Stockingate, South Kirkby.
- Public and Press have access to all Town Council and Committee Meetings. Members of the public cannot participate in a meeting unless specifically invited by the Chair. Public and Press can be excluded from a meeting if it is resolved that publicity would not be in the public interest.
- Each Town Council meeting has a Public Forum during which members of the public may raise issues for consideration.
- The Town Council is required by law to hold at least four meeting per year including the Annual Meeting which must be held in May.
Annual Town Meeting
- The Annual Town Meeting is a meeting of the Town's electorate.
- It is not a Town Council meeting, although the Town Mayor will call the meeting, and if present, will chair the event.
- There is no prescribed format for this meeting, other than custom and practice.
- Resolutions made by the meeting are not binding on the Town Council.
Precept Meeting
- Town Council services are, in the main, financed from monies raised through the precept.
- The precept is a local tax collected by the rating authority (City of Wakefield MDC) through the council tax system.
- The Finance and Resources Committee will recommend what level of precept is required at a meeting in January.
- The Town Council will confirm the level of precept at a meeting in February and will approve the issue of the formal requisition on the rating authority.
