The Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr Kevin Barker, and the Town Mayor, Cllr Lynne Whitehouse, officially opening the new play area on our Barnsley Road Recreation Ground during our Community Festival. The funding for the play area was arranged by our district councillors – Cllr Michelle Collins, Cllr Steve Tulley and Cllr Wilf Benson – and was provided by Wakefield Council so our thanks go to all of them.
Thank you to everyone who came to either of our festival days on 21st & 22nd July. On Saturday 22nd it looked like we would have had to cancel because of all the rain overnight until around 9/10am.
Luckily the rain stopped until around 7pm by which point the people that remained enjoyed dancing in the rain! Pictures will be available from the event soon. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and we are looking forward to next year. As always feedback and ideas are more than welcome.
Marjorie Picken recently retired from working for the town council for 13 years. The photo shows Marjorie receiving flowers and a gift from the Town Mayor, Cllr Lynne Whitehouse. We all wish Marjorie a long and happy retirement.
On 8th February 2017 the Town Council decided to reduce the precept by 1.5% for the coming year 2017-18.
The mowing of the grass in the area of Minsthorpe Vale which falls in the parish of South Kirkby and Moorthorpe (as per the red outline on the Google Earth photo) has been arranged and paid for by South Kirkby and Moorthorpe Town Council. This is because Wakefield Council have refused to have it mowed/maintained.
