We pride ourselves on providing more local services than any comparable town council in Yorkshire. Below is a list of the services we provide:

We are responsible for:

  • Moorthorpe Cemetery
  • Carr Lane Cemetery
  • Burials & cremations
  • Grave maintenance
  • Headstones & memorials

We manage and promote the popular community bus service servicing local routes and available for group use. We are developing the following as community facilities:

  • Moorthorpe Station
  • Lease of land and premises
  • Redevelopment of a community facility, Longhouse

We provide:

  • The hosted annual gala day
  • Summer play scheme for youngsters
  • Grants to the Miners Welfare bowling and cricket clubs
  • Grants to other charitable and sports bodies
  • Dances and treats for senior citizens
  • Festive lighting
  • Lighting and maintenance
  • A number of local youth football teams
  • Grove Hall facility which hosts functions for:
    • Weddings
    • Conferences and seminars
    • Funerals and christenings
    • Our Langthwaite Business Centre facility which provides space for:
      • Sports therapy
      • CCTV centre for the industrial estate
    • Supporting pre-school places for 2-4 year olds
    • Various community groups such as Band Learners & Seniors and art groups.

We provide the following facilities:

  • Model allotments with toilet facilities
  • A maintained recreation ground including:
    • Pavilion changing rooms
    • Bowling green
    • Children’s play area
    • Kick wall
    • Football pitches

We also organise:

  • The annual firework display
  • The annual gala day
  • Community events

We maintain:

  • Clock Row car park
  • The iron age site and car park
  • Manface site
  • Gallon Croft playing fields
  • Shepherd Gardens
  • Common Road football pitch
  • Church Avenue recreation area open space

We sponsor:

  • Football teams and provide trophies
  • Award ceremony evenings
  • Remembrance day though the British Legion

The mayoral charity gives support to local organisations and donations to local charities.
The council is seeking to improve our community and to that end is working in partnership with community police to eliminate the scourge of litter. On the spot fines of £75 will be applied to adults.
